where I ate

Lisbon is home to AMAZING seafood, pastries, and modern cafes. Here's where I would eat!

-Fauna & Flora (insta worthy brunch)
-Jam Club (SUPER fun drinks & tapas)
-Penalva de Graca (authentic, seafood)
-Damas (portugese favorites)
-Fábrica do Pastel Feijão (pastries)
-A Muralha Tasca Tipica (tapas & drinks)

what I ate

My #1 advice for Lisbon is to take a food tour! The tour guides here are so knowledgeable, and as a bonus you get to try all the local goodies. Here's my MUST try food while in Lisbon.

-Pastel De Nata (delicious custard tart)
-Sardines (Portugal is famous for them!)
-Chouriço (Portugese sausage)
-Ginjinha (local favorite, cherry liqueur)
-Sagres Beer (super cheap, super yummy)

where I went

Lisbon is the perfect spot for any traveler. If you like taking it easy there are tons of cafes and streets to explore! If you're up for more adventure, Lisbon has access to that too. Here's what I did during my week in Lisbon.

-Wander (or take a tour). As one of the oldes cities in Europe, Lisbon has an interesting past, with Islamic and European influences. Get lost and learn a little bit of history!

-Castelo de S. Jorge. This castle has some of the best views of the city, and you can wander freely through the grounds.

-Belem. A short train ride away in the city of Cascais, this tower is iconic! You can pay to go inside and take a tour, but I suggest going a little later for beautiful sunset views.

-Sintra. Take a day trip to this enchanting city and tour tons of castles! Pena Palace (the bright yellow one!) is a must. I would also suggest Quinta da Regaleira for a quirky castle experience.

-Bairro Alto. Visit this neighborhood in the evening for a fun-filled night! Definitely stop by Jam Club (my favorite restaurant in Lisbon) for some tapas, sangria, and live music.

pena palace

This is an iconic location a little outside of Lisbon.  Earlier in the day you can purchase tickets to go inside, but after all the other tours and museums you've been doing, I'd suggest grabbing a bite and coming for an amazing sunset.

Lisbon is a city full of hills, which means it's the perfect place for amazing views! One of my favorite things to do here is wander the cobblestone streets and just get lost. I'd suggest the Alfama neighborhood for the steepest hills and the BEST views!

For a day trip outside of Lisbon, Sintra is the place to go. With tons of castles to explore, sometimes it's hard to choose. Pena Palace is my go-to! The bright colors, stunning patterns, wild architecture- this palace is one of a kind. You have to see it to believe it.
